Catalytic converter thieves target school buses in Colorado Springs

End-of-year field trips to the zoo, Garden of the Gods and college campuses have been called off for Atlas Preparatory School students because thieves stole catalytic converters from two activity buses last week.
Administrators at the charter school, which primarily serves low-income students in southeast Colorado Springs, also are scrambling to figure out how athletes can get to girls’ soccer games and track-and-field meets over the remaining few weeks of school.
“It’s rather unfortunate,” Brittney M. Stroh, executive director of Atlas Prep, which enrolls 1,100 kindergarten through 12th graders.
“We’re in the last four weeks of school, and we don’t have any way to transport kids to cultural and recreational field trips and sporting events. ....

Drone Spots Suspect Hiding In Mangroves

Oak Hill, FL - A suspect manages to tuck himself under a group of mangroves and out of the sight of deputies, but not out of the sight of the drone hovering above him. Sometime around 7:30 Wednesday night (January 20th), deputies with the Volusia Sheriff s Office (VSO) went to investigate a suspicious vehicle parked at Seminole Rest Park off of River Road. As deputies were investigating, they watched as a man wearing a backpack rode a bicycle into the closed park. The rider refused to stop and continued into the park. Eventually, a sergeant found both the bike and the backpack abandoned. Inside the backpack deputies reportedly found two bags of crystal meth. At that point, deputies called in the help of the VSO Aerial Response Team. After a drone went airborne, it found the heat signature of 45-year-old Jeffrey Goodwin as he laid in the mangroves, out of the sight of the searching deputies. VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A drone pilot located a man who was hiding underneath mangroves after he was caught riding into a closed park while carrying a backpack with methamphetamine in it, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they were patrolling at Seminole Rest Park Wednesday around 7:30 p.m. when they noticed a man on a bicycle riding toward the entrance even though the park was closed.
The man on the bike refused to stop and claimed he didn’t have any identification, records show. ....
