Hospitality industry glad to have customers back inside ); ); THE hospitality industry will welcome customers indoors for the first time in four months next week. People will be able to meet in groups of up to 30 outdoors or six inside under the third stage of easing lockdown restrictions on Monday. Some pubs, restaurants and cafés re-opened last month but others couldn’t provide outdoor service or decided to wait a little longer. Shellfish Cow, a restaurant in Reading Road, Henley, will re-open on Tuesday. The steak and shellfish restaurant, which employs 10 people, first opened in December 2019 but missed out on a significant amount of trade last year due to the pandemic. ....
Village party on the river with spirit of Dunkirk ); ); A VILLAGE party including a flotilla on the River Thames will be held in Wargrave over the summer. Resident Geoff Knight is appealing to boat owners to donate their vessels and an hour of their time so that other residents have a chance to go out on the water. The celebration on Thursday, July 17 will be called the Dunkirk Spirit of Wargrave Village Party, in reference to the “Little Ships” which rescued thousands of soldiers from Dunkirk during the Second World War. It is being organised with help from Jayne Worrall, who runs the Bull pub in High Street, and the nearby St George & Dragon. ....
Pubs hope to avoid April showers ); ); PUBS and restaurants are proceeding with caution after being given a roadmap for the lifting of coronavirus measures. Although they can start to serve customers from April 12, this will be outdoors only for at least a month. The possibility of trade being heavily dependent on weather means some have decided to wait until May to bring staff back and re-open fully. Limits on social contact are set to remain until June, which means covid safety measures will restrict the number of customers for some time. Jayne Worrall, who runs the Bull pub in Wargrave, only has a small garden area with six tables so she has decided to wait until May 17 when customers are expected to be allowed indoors. ....
Pub landlord frustrated by having to shut at busy time ); ); A HENLEY pub landlord says he is “frustrated” after being forced to close under the new coronavirus restrictions at one of his busiest times. David Thompson runs the Little Angel pub in Remenham Lane, which is just inside Berkshire, one of the many areas in the South that was moved into the new tier 4, the highest alert level for covid-19 risk. The rest of Henley and Oxfordshire remain in tier 2, meaning that all businesses can remain open and pubs can continue to serve alcohol if it is with a substantial meal. ....
