BERLIN, May 7 (Xinhua) German stocks opened with a good start on Friday, with the benchmark DAX index rising by 151.58 points, or 1.00 percent, at 15,348.32 points.
The biggest winner among Germany s 30 largest listed companies at the opening bell was sportswear manufacturer Adidas, increasing by 7.57 percent, followed by chipmaker Infineon with 2.34 percent and aircraft engine manufacturer MTU Aero Engines with 2.18 percent.
On Friday, Adidas announced that its currency-neutral revenues in the first quarter (Q1) grew by 27 percent year on year to 5.2 billion euros (6.3 billion U.S. dollars), while its net income reached 502 million euros (608 million dollars) from only 26 million euros (31 million dollars) in Q1 2020. ....

Three of Europe’s largest economies slowed by less than expected in the final quarter of last year, despite fresh measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic that restricted activity by consumers and businesses.
The German and Spanish economies both defied fears that they would shrink in the final three months of last year, growing by 0.1 per cent and 0.4 per cent from the previous three months respectively, according to official data published on Friday. ....

Is the coronavirus crisis turning London into a bicycle city?
Cyclists less fortunate
One group, however, saw a dramatic spike in traffic accidents, namely cyclists. Though statistics only covered the period from January to October, insurance investigators say the number of accidents (11,228) was significantly higher than during that same period in the year prior (9,102).
Analysts say the trend can be traced to more people, especially those who would normally use public transportation, traveling by bicycle. Increased bicycle traffic also exacerbated a systemic traffic problem a lack of adequate infrastructure, such as bike lanes and extra traffic lights for cyclists. 
Accident researcher Siegfried Brockman told the German news agency DPA, Local governments have begun to signal their willingness to address the problem but have been slow to implement improvements. Brockman says that as the pandemic drags on, overall traffic fatalities may remain low again in 20 ....
