The new Transformative Urban Coalitions project brings IIED and partners together to change structures and values, build new urban coalitions and implement strategies leading to socially inclusive zero-carbon cities.
Cities account for 75% of today’s carbon emissions, and meeting global emission goals will require collaboration and city leadership. At the same time, cities are deeply affected by the current climate crisis. Extreme heat events, water stress, deterioration of natural assets and air pollution are having severe negative impacts on health and quality of life in cities, and they are also putting severe stress on cities’ infrastructure.

Addis Ababa, 2 March 2021, ECA – The Economic commission for Africa (ECA) in collaboration with five other partners is organizing a two-day high-level event on investment facilitation for development for African countries starting on 3 March.
This “High-level Regional Roundtable on Investment Facilitation for Development: The benefits and challenges of international investment facilitation frameworks for development for African economies” is co-organized by the ECA, the International Trade Centre (ITC), the German Development Institute/Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, and the World Economic Forum (WEF).
