County COVID-19 briefing: Cases continue to decline, vaccine frustration lingers

Declining COVID cases, but lingering vaccine frustration marked Snohomish County’s latest coronavirus briefing Tuesday.
The vaccine pipeline is slowly reopening here. Dr. Chris Spitters, the county’s chief health officer, said during the briefing that the county is getting deliveries that were promised last week and getting this week’s vaccine allotment as well. That means 30,000 doses “within the next day or two,”  Spitters told reporters. That’s 10,000 doses for first shots; 20,000 slated for people getting the second shot.
The county warns that there have been misleading notices and posts claiming vaccine sites are “first-come, first-served.” That, Spitters said, is not true. To get the vaccine, you must have an appointment. A new state online appointment system has been delayed, again, as the county continues to test it. ....

The Monroe Senior Center teamed up with a local pharmacy as web-based booking systems have kept some people older than 65 from getting vaccinated.

MONROE, Wash. It’s been a battle from the beginning: Seniors have been trying to book COVID-19 vaccine appointments and are getting nowhere.
Snohomish County was set to unveil a new, easier way to book vaccine appointments this week, but according to county leaders, it is just not ready.
“We’re committed to this one being markedly better, and so we’re taking the time to make sure it actually is when we roll it out,” said Jason Biermann, Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management. ....

With COVID-19 vaccine in short supply, confusion abounds over second shots

At 71 years old, Lisa Soli was delighted to snag a coveted COVID-19 vaccine during a clinic last month at Overlake Medical Center in Bellevue. But when the retired educator asked about her second dose, the nurse told her they weren’t scheduling boosters and wished her luck finding one.
Soli has been searching ever since.
“You just have to get lucky, and it shouldn’t be that way,” she said. “This is critical life-and-death stuff for those of us over 65.” ....
