New motion aimed at penalizing truckers who flout designated routes

Article content
Klein said it makes little sense the city’s bicycle route bylaw is more “forceful” than the truck route bylaw. He’s received many calls from residents complaining about road damage caused by semi-trucks.
“Right now trucks continue to drive on roads, which is going to cost us millions of dollars to repair,” he said. “It’s unnecessary. We’ve got failing infrastructure as it is.”
Coun. Jeff Browaty (North Kildonan) told the
Sun the city needs to do a better job of making sure truckers know the implications of truck route bylaws.
“Taking shortcuts on residential streets is a problem, and I do support cracking down,” he said. “If you live on a local residential street you shouldn’t have massive 18 wheel trucks shaking your house at all hours of the day and night.”
