COLDWATER “I’m competent,” Jonathan Fleming, 42, objected to Branch County District Court Judge Brent Weigle Tuesday afternoon.
The judge ordered the Michigan Center for Forensic Psychiatry to determine his current state of mind, as well if he was criminally responsible when he allegedly threw a rock through a window at neighbor Thomas Hensell on Jan 15.
Hensell, a 70-year old veteran, had befriended his Lyter Road neighbor. Fleming appeared outside his home and threw a large rock through the window at him.
Public defender John Vincent said responses from Fleming raised his concern whether Fleming was competent.
“He said he had no memory of these events, Vincent said. ....

KALAMAZOO, MI Getting arrested and getting sober saved his life, former St. Joseph County Prosecutor John McDonough told the court Thursday.
McDonough, who was charged by the state attorney general with operating under the influence of alcohol and having open intoxicants in a motor vehicle after a May 11 crash near Three Rivers, pleaded guilty Jan. 28 to an added count of operating a motor vehicle while visibly impaired. ....

LANSING – Following an incident last year in Lockport Township, former St. Joseph County Prosecutor John McDonough has pleaded guilty to driving while visibly impaired and was sentenced to one year probation.
McDonough appeared Thursday before Judge Vincent Westra in Kalamazoo County 8th District Court.
McDonough was previously charged by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and having open intoxicants inside a motor vehicle. Those charges have been dropped due to McDonough’s plea. ....

LOCKPORT TOWNSHIP, Mich. â Former St. Joseph County Prosecutor John McDonough pleaded guilty Thursday to driving while visibly impaired last year.
He was sentenced to one year of probation, according to a news release Friday.
McDonough was previously charged by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nesselâs office with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and having open intoxicants inside a motor vehicle. ....

Former prosecutor pleads guilty to driving while visibly impaired
McDonough was sentenced to a year of probation.
He was previously charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and having open intoxicants inside a motor vehicle, but those counts were dismissed due to the plea deal.
On May 11, 2020, McDonough was driving in Lockport Township when he crossed the center line, went off the roadway and crashed into a fence.
The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department responded and conducted the investigation.
Deputies said McDonough’s BAC at the time of the incident was between .06 and .07.
McDonough’s case was moved out of St. Joseph County and prosecution was handled by the Attorney General’s Office. ....
