By Jim Measel Jul 19, 2021 | 7:17 PM COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) â A Matteson Township man who was charged by prosecutors after a rock was thrown through a neighborâs front door window last January entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court. 42-year-old Jonathan Vern Fleming entered a no contest plea to a charge of malicious destruction of property between $200 and $1,000. In exchange for his plea, charges of felonious assault and malicious destruction of a building between $1,000 and $20,000 will be dismissed by prosecutors. Sentencing is scheduled for August 23. According to court documents, the rock that was thrown through the window barely missed hitting a man inside. ....
By Jim Measel May 7, 2021 8:04 AM COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) â Branch County Prosecutors have charged a second person in connection with the alleged theft of catalytic converters in Matteson Township between November 1 and December 23 of last year. 57-year-old Richard Allen Caudill of Angola, Indiana was arraigned on Thursday in Branch County District Court on a felony charge of buying and selling stolen scrap metal and a misdemeanor count of violating the stateâs scrap metal regulatory act by not keeping proper records at his Bronson business on South Matteson Lake Road. A personal recognizance bond of $5,000 was set and the defendant was allowed to continue living in Angola. A probable cause hearing was set for June 15 with a preliminary exam on June 22. ....
By Jim Measel May 4, 2021 5:21 PM COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) â A Three Rivers man was arraigned Tuesday in Branch County District Court on three larceny charges in connection with the alleged theft of catalytic converters in Matteson Township between November 1 and December 23 of last year. An habitual offender fourth offense notice has also been filed by prosecutors against 39-year-old Alexander Zuchnik whose criminal record goes back to 2014. According to court documents, he was previously convicted for uttering and publishing, forgery and being in possession of a controlled substance. Authorities say all three of the alleged thefts took place from two vehicles at the same location on North Matteson Lake Road. ....
COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) â A man arrested last November after he fired a rifle at a Matteson Township home during a domestic dispute was sentenced on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court. As part of a plea bargain agreement, 28-year-old Travis McCann entered guilty pleas to aggravated stalking as well as to a count of possession of less than 25 grams of a controlled substance in an unrelated case. He was given concurrent nine month jail sentences on the two charges with 143 days credit for time already served. He was also ordered to serve five years on probation for the aggravated stalking count with a concurrent 24 months of probation on the drug charge. ....
