Stronger healthcare infrastructure coming to Palm Coast

Access to medical care is an important piece of any healthy, thriving community and Palm Coast is no exception. While Advent Health has a major footprint in the area (with two hospitals and a third campus on the way), there’s still a significant lack of speciality medical services within the city limits.
“How many of us in this community have to drive to New Smyrna, Orlando, St. Johns County or Jacksonville for medical services?” said Jeff Douglas, president of Douglas Property & Development. “Or we have to wait weeks or months for health services here.
In the 2019 Department of Health Flagler County Community Assessment, 42% of people said that mental health and counseling services were hard to obtain while 29% said alternative therapy and 25% said speciality doctor care such as a heart doctor. Almost 15% said it was difficult to obtain dental or oral care. ....

It’s no secret that Palm Coast is slowly, but surely, becoming a more popular place to live.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the population in Flagler County grew by 20.3% (or 115,000 people) between 2010 and 2019, and even during a global pandemic, 240,256 people still moved to Florida in 2020. If these trends tell us anything, it’s that Palm Coast will need to provide more housing and fast to keep up with incoming residents.

Even before a global pandemic, there was an increasing need for health care workers. A 2018 report from global health care staffing consultancy Mercer determined that the U.S. needs to hire 2.3 million new health care workers by 2025 to meet the demand of its aging population.
In Florida which has the second-highest percentage of residents 65 and older, according to the Population Reference Bureau the need is felt even stronger. A 2020 study from RegisteredNursing.org found that Florida will have the “highest disparity of nursing supply and demand” by 2030, lacking over 57,000 nurses. ....

Palm Coast, FL - A private university in Jacksonville is partnering with the City of Palm Coast to bring in-demand healthcare graduate programs to Flagler & Volusia. Both Palm Coast Mayor Milissa Holland and Jacksonville University President Tim Cost made the announcement of the new campus on Tuesday (December 15th). The new Jacksonville University (JU) Palm Coast Campus and the school s main campus will then serve as two anchors of what the school expects to become—an education corridor stretching throughout Northeast Florida. “This partnership builds on Jacksonville University’s proven strategy of attracting top-notch students, educating and training them in cutting-edge fields, and connecting them with local employers so they stay in the region,” said President Cost. “With demand for healthcare professionals expected to rise 14 percent in the next decade, and a lack of local graduate programs devoted to educatin ....
