Widower of nurse who died of Covid days after giving birth hails bid for national memorial

It was a tragedy that shocked the nation even at the height of the Covid pandemic – a 28-year-old nurse who died just days after giving birth to her baby girl.
Now, 13 months on, the heartbroken widower of Mary Agyapong is embracing the opportunity to honour the NHS worker with the Remember Me memorial at St Paul’s Cathedral.
Miss Agyapong died from the virus on Easter Sunday last year at the height of the first wave, leaving behind her two young children – days-old baby Mary and toddler son AJ.
Her widower, Ernest Boateng, says the plans for the lasting tribute to coronavirus victims will bring his children ‘much comfort and solace’ as they are forced to grow up without their mother. ....

Ollie Sweeney s family are fundraising for vital treatment to save his life
Ollie Sweeney is four-year-old who likes nothing better than playing with his toy figures and watching Super Mario and Paw Patrol, as well as being a big brother to 20-month-old Jake.
But unlike most children, Ollie has battled neuroblastoma twice in his young life - and nearly lost his fight during a relapse last year.
Chances of long-term survival with relapse neuroblastoma are less than 10%.
Now, parents Lucy and Gary are determined to fund ground-breaking treatment in Barcelona to help prevent the possibility of a further relapse, followed by clinical trials in New York in a bid to cure Ollie s cancer completely. ....

A mix and match Covid vaccine trial is being expanded as we await the results of the first stage of the study. The UK trial is looking at whether two-jab vaccines can be mixed with different types. More than 800 people have so far taken part in the Com-Cov study, with the results expected next month. Experts are trying to find out whether combining vaccines might give broader, longer-lasting immunity against the virus and new variants of it, and also offer more flexibility for vaccine rollout.
