The western reaches of the Austin area have never been known as a bastion for diners seeking exciting options. But over the past year, serendipity stepped in to help make a small parking lot in the mostly residential Lost Creek neighborhood an unexpected food-lovers oasis. Isaac Flores, who returned to Austin from New York City with his wife, Kelsey Sammataro Hutchins, in 2018, was looking for a home for Sammataro, the pizza concept he created with a few friends last year. His brother-in-law, Devon Hutchins, told Isaac and Kelsey about the lines his Woody’s Shave Ice trailer had inspired on a small pad off Lost Creek Boulevard last summer. ....

New Westlake pizzaria Sammataro expands hours in the new year After launching the Sammataro in Lost Creek in early December, owner Issac Flores has big plans for 2021. The wood-fired pizza food trailer will be expanding its hours in the new year. In January, the truck will be open Wednesdays through Sundays from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. In February, the truck will expand to serve weekend lunches, opening at noon on Saturdays and Sundays. Flores said Sammataro’s launch this month was a success. The pizzeria has been opened at 1158 Lost Creek Boulevard and has attracted a steady stream of customers. Since the soft launch in early December, Flores has hired two new employees, expanding the staff to five, and is looking at possibly hiring more. ....
