Tributes paid to Abersychan School headteacher Mike Conway


Mike Conway died aged 64 on Sunday, June 13, at the Grange University Hospital.
Mr Conway was well known to pupils across the Gwent region, having been a familiar face at Bedwellty, Bedwas and Abersychan schools.
His daughter, Nerys Rees, said: Wherever he went, he was really well-liked and respected.
He was very inspirational, was passionate about education, and wanted the best for everyone. He really believed that everyone deserved the right to a good education no matter where they were from.
He always had this ability that, if you felt you weren’t good enough, he could turn that around. His passion was unbelievable. He just wanted all of his pupils to get the best out of life. ....

Swimming clubs petition Welsh Government to reopen pools


Paul McRae, chairman of Torfaen Dolphins - one of the clubs supporting the petition, said: “It just feels like there is a massive void between what is going on in Wales and what is going on in England in terms of a return to the water and the return of sport.
“As far as we are aware, there is no scientific evidence why we shouldn’t be returning to the water.
“From a club perspective, we are looking at travelling outside of Wales to England to train from April 12 – when it is legal to do so.
“We are told that even though we can travel to England from April 12, they advise that we shouldn’t. But they have shut down entire sports. We train in chlorinated water which kills the virus. What do they expect us to do? ....
