Graduates from Tarpon Springs High participate in one of several outdoor graduation ceremonies last summer at Spectrum Field in Clearwater. The Pinellas County school district required students and their families to wear masks as they walked toward a stage on the field. Each student took the stage alone to be photographed with the principal before leaving with their families to pick up their diploma at another location. There were no speeches or handshakes but graduates got to parade in their caps and gowns and hear their names called. Officials are hoping for a more traditional ceremony this year, but much will depend on what course the coronavirus takes after spring break. ....

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Two teenage sisters in Clearwater are changing the lives of foster families through the power of home-cooked meals.
Seventeen-year-old Samantha Kopec, and her 15-year-old sister Laura, move around the kitchen in perfect harmony. For the past year and a half, they ve been cooking two to three meals a week for their nonprofit organization, Feeding the Fosters.
Cooking meals that our great grandmother passed down to us, all the way from Italy, so we ll make baked ziti and chicken parm, said Samantha, who is a senior at Tarpon Springs High School. ....

When Steven Kelly, president of the Florida Music Educators Association, first met Jeanne Reynolds more than 20 years ago, he knew she was someone who commanded respect.
Everyone wanted to talk to her.
He’d later go on to serve on national committees with Reynolds and learned that she was a force in music education around the nation. In addition to being a former president of the Florida Music Educators Association, she had also led other statewide music organizations, winning awards for her leadership. ....

TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. - Students at Tarpon Springs High School interested in being a veterinarian are getting a rare opportunity to practice procedures on a dog.
It is the first grade-school in Florida, and only the second in the nation, to have access to a synthetic cadaver canine, something typically reserved for universities and vet programs.
It s kind of an honor actually knowing that our program is as unique as it is, said Farrah Schutte, a senior. I actually jumped up and down with joy, Schutte added, describing the excitement she felt when she first heard her school was getting the dog. ....
