The word culchie could be banned from Scrabble as it may be seen as derogatory .
Mattel, who make the classic word game, are due to publish a new list of 400 banned words - in an effort to make the game more politically correct. 
Ed Miliano, who runs a scrabble club in Dublin, said he is in the minority among game players who believe that derogatory words should be removed - but thinks banning the word ‘culchie’ is “mistaken”. 
British author Darryl Francis resigned from the World English-Language Scrabble Players Association (WESPA) because he said Mattel had forced the changes on the game. ....

The Scrabble world is in uproar over moves by the venerable board game s owners to ban a long list of words now considered slurs.
Three prominent members of the global Scrabble players organisation have quit over the removal of words from official game lists.
They have complained that as Scrabble is a game of words, as long as terms are listed in the dictionary they should be able to be played. To do otherwise would be to pretend those words don t exist.
One of Scrabble s owners, however, has said there are no other games where players can win by using a racial epithet . ....

Scrabble has banned racial slurs from scoring points on the family favourite board game to the ire of libertarians and scrabble players.
In total, over 400 dictionary defined terms have vanished from the game after one of Scrabble’s owners, Mattel, said there are no other games where players “can win by using a racial epithet”.
There is no one list of the banned terms, but online Scrabble check websites allow players to type in a word to see if it can be played.
Various slurs against black, Pakistani, Irish and white people have been axed but some offensive terms against Australian aboriginal communities are still valid, according to one campaigner. ....
