Dixons Allerton Academy, where a Year 6 pupil took a kitchen knife to school
THERE has been concern in the local community after an 11-year-old child went into their primary school on Wednesday carrying a kitchen knife.
The Year 6 pupil, at Dixons Allerton Academy in Rhodesway, took the blade into school earlier this week.
A letter was sent to parents of Dixons Allerton pupils on Wednesday to alert them of the “serious incident” which had occurred at the school and required police intervention, but didn’t mention the involvement of a knife in the incident.
It said the family of the child involved had been informed of what had occurred and they were working with the school and police on the matter. ....

University's 1960s mural spared as cladding plans are approved

A 1960s MURAL at the University of Bradford will be retained after amended plans to clad a building were approved.
The work - at the entrance to the University s Richmond Building, was designed by artist Joseph Mayo in 1964, and is thought to be his last surviving mural in the UK.
The University recently submitted an application to add cladding to large areas of its buildings to help conserve energy.
This included areas of the Richmond Building, and the original plans would have seen the Mayo mural covered up.
These proposals attracted a huge amount of objections, including from the artist s son and the 20th Century Society. ....

University of Bradford scraps plan to cover up iconic 1960s mural by Joseph Mayo

THE University of Bradford has scrapped plans to cover a 1960s mural on its city centre campus with cladding.
Plans to cover large swathes of the building in cladding, including the mural at the entrance of the Richmond Building, were first submitted in late December.
But after a wave of objections to the plans, including from National group The 20th Century Society and the son of the artist behind the work, the University has now amended the plans to retain the mural as a permanent feature of the building.
The mural was designed and built by architect and artist Joseph Mayo in 1964, with colours designed to reflect Bradford s history of fabrics and dyes. ....
