ELBERTA, Utah County Approximately one year after Jayden Johnivan Snyder s death, his family hosted four organ donation awareness events to honor his memory. Snyder died on July 17, 2020, in a tragic car accident, a press release from the event explained. He was 20 years old. However, five days after Snyder passed away, his heart continued to beat as an organ donor, Snyder saved four lives and helped improve many others. In his memory, Snyder s family teamed up on Saturday with Donor Connect, a local non-profit organization that facilitates organ recovery and transplants. In anticipation of the one-year anniversary of his death, Snyder s family helped plan four events in Utah County to raise awareness about the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation. Each event concluded at the Vintage Sinclair in Elberta, where people gathered for lunch and festivities. ....

The largest town in Southwest Utah is slowly and comfortably embracing its growth at just the right pace. A quiet community of less than 90,000 people, St. George is best known for its proximity to the great outdoors, especially Zion National Park, but it s turning into a worthwhile destination in its own right. The story of St. George is much like other Utah cities. It was founded as a Mormon settlement, but eventually developed its own identity. While other parts of the state see snow-capped mountains throughout the year, St. George has a warm, desert climate that along with a history of cotton production earned the nickname Utah s Dixie. The tag is a source of local pride, but has obvious complications, reflected in movements currently underway to rename the Dixie Convention Center and Dixie State University. ....
ST. GEORGE At nearly 101 years old, Gail Halvorsen made yet another flight to spread candy and smiles, this time to St. George residents during the city s annual Fourth of July celebration. Marilyn Halvorsen Sorensen, Gail Halvorsen s daughter, noted that the beloved Candy Bomber will turn 101 in October. I said, Are you up for one more? And he said: Only one more? Sorensen told KSL.com. He loves his country, and we re just glad that we can be here. Halvorsen served as one of the pilots in a huge U.S. airlift that saved two million Germans from starvation. The Soviet Union had blockaded West Berlin in an attempt to take it away from the western Allies. The Utah native flew planeload after planeload of flour and coal that German volunteers eagerly unloaded. ....
