Lacrosse is a game of runs, and CNU twice utilized 4-0 spurts to change the momentum. Down 6-2, a four-goal run between the end of the second and start of the third quarter tied the score at 6. Then, after Ryan Kenney scored consecutive goals for Lynchburg, CNU ended the third quarter with three goals and scored the first tally of the fourth, going ahead 10-8. Up 11-9, CNU relinquished the lead. Trammel Robinson scored the equalizer with 1:27 left to play, setting the stage for overtime. Despite the Lynchburg momentum, it was Christopher Newport that earned a semifinal bid. Dylan Rice scored four goals, Brendes scored three and Coby Auslander had two goals and two assists for the Captains. Zac Hanway made 11 saves. ....
Steve Koudelka wants his menâs lacrosse players at the University of Lynchburg to be of the right mindset the moment they step onto campus as freshmen. It might be natural for those student-athletes, the coach explained, to want to test the water of their new environment, or to see what one of the nationâs preeminent Division III programs can do to advance their careers. But, waiting at the edge of the pool, only dipping a toe in, could mean missing out on the joy that comes with jumping in. âItâs like if you go to a friendâs house and you have an hour to swim. ⦠If you only jump in the last 15 minutes, you only got to swim 15 minutes. Youâll realize, âI wish I got to swim for an hour,ââ Koudelka said recently, as he played out the analogy in describing his program. ....

The Field of 16 as officially been reduced to eight, and the action will resume next weekend with quarterfinal and semifinal rounds once again back to back on Saturday and Sunday. The eight remaining teams are Colorado College, Christopher Newport, Lynchburg, York, Tufts, Salisbury, Illinois Wesleyan and RIT. These teams will meet in the Elite Eight at host sites RIT and Salisbury for what will be four fantastic games and set the table for the Division III national championship. ....

In 25 seasons at the helm of the Lynchburg lacrosse program, Koudelka has redefined what it means to have consistent, discipline, and hard-working teams. Across the sport you will find many fantastic coaches, and not many can match coach Kudelka’s ability to get the most out of their team. Perhaps no greater testament to his impact on the sport are the numerous rising coaches in the sport who played under him or coached beside him. ....
