Summit County reports 4 hospitalizations, 122 COVID-19 cases over the week

Summit County reported 122 COVID-19 cases and four hospitalizations among residents over the week, according to the county’s coronavirus webpage.
The total number of positive cases among residents is now at 2,834 and 114 people have been hospitalized with the virus.
Since Colorado switched over to Dial 2.0, which looks at COVID metrics on a one-week average rather than two-week average, the county’s numbers have remained in level orange or lower.
As of Friday, Feb. 12, the county’s one-week incidence rate was 306.6 new cases per 100,000 people, down 70.4 cases from last week. The number falls within level orange on the dial. To be within the lower yellow level it would need to be 300 or lower. ....

Winter Park Outbreak and Colorado Ski Towns COVID-19 Update

The February 10 survey reveals 895 outbreaks under active investigation and 2,806 considered resolved, for a total of 3,701 over the course of the pandemic. That s an increase of 124 in the week since our February 3 update, which totaled 3,577 outbreaks (924 active, 2,653 resolved).
This bump came despite a continuing decline in the number of nursing homes and assisted living centers experiencing outbreaks. The health-care category led these lists for months, but on February 3, it fell behind outbreaks at K-12 schools an indication that vaccinations of residents and staffers at such facilities, who began receiving inoculations in December, are having a positive effect. On February 10, fifteen health-care operations joined the outbreaks roster, up from eleven on February 3 but only ten are identified as specializing in senior services, and half of those outbreaks actually date back weeks, likely due to a lag in communication between local and state public-health agencies. ....

Demand for resources high as more than 600 locals apply for rent help

The most wonderful time of the year has turned into the most trying time of their lives for many people in Summit County as an increasing number are seeking out resources as the novel coronavirus pandemic rages on.
Local nonprofit organizations like the Family & Intercultural Resource Center are seeing that most acutely with demand for food and requests for financial help to pay the rent continuing to be high. Since Dec. 3 the nonprofit has seen 608 people requesting rental assistance via the organization’s online application, said Executive Director Brianne Snow on Friday, Dec. 18.
Snow said 77% of the people who have applied report working in the restaurant or food service industry, 89% of the applicants have lived or worked in Summit County for longer than a year and 50% of them have worked or lived in Summit County for five years or more. She added that the resource center has already paid out $375,000 in rental relief over the l ....

Summit churches vary Christmas approaches amid the pandemic

As a chaplain at St. Anthony Summit Medical Center, Karen Johns is one of a few Summit County residents who received a novel coronavirus vaccine this week.
To Johns, a member of Lord of the Mountains Lutheran Church, the vaccine is a blessing. It’s the kind of thing that will help the county return to normal life, save jobs and improve current mental health and isolation struggles for many. However, in Johns’ mind that time is still a ways away even for churches amid a traditional time of celebration.
Though she’d love to have in-person Christmas services and household gatherings this coming week, her view is for people of faith that the decision to hold such gatherings comes down to “the admonition that we love one another.” ....

Family & Intercultural Resource Center offers rental assistance as people struggle to make ends meet in level red

As level red restrictions start to take a toll on the Summit County community, the Family & Intercultural Resource Center is providing rental assistance to those who need it most.
With the help of funding from town and county governments, the nonprofit is providing rental relief for December and January. People can qualify for the money if they live or work in Summit County and have been affected by the pandemic in some way. ....
