Tribute to Vision & Justice Project and Founder Sarah Elizabeth Lewis Frieze New York galleries and institutions respond to: ‘How are the arts responsible for disrupting, complicating, or shifting narratives of visual representation in the public realm?’ A central strand of Frieze New York 2021 programming is the Tribute to the Vision & Justice Project and its founder, Sarah Elizabeth Lewis (Associate Professor at Harvard University). The Tribute will honour the exemplary work of the Vision & Justice Project, through an unprecedented engagement with the community of galleries participating at Frieze New York at The Shed and Frieze Viewing Room. Arts events for Sarasota-Manatee: Dec. 31-Jan. 6 Dancing into a new year The Sarasota Ballet kicks off the new year with its third digital program of excerpts from a wide variety of pieces by six different choreographers. The company announced in December that it would continue its online presentations through the rest of the season. The latest offering, available Friday through Tuesday features Peter Darrell’s “Othello,” Christopher Wheeldon’s “The American,” Sir Matthew Bourne’s “The Infernal Galop,” Sir Peter Wright’s “The Mirror Walkers” and “Summertide,” Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s “Concerto” and Dominic Walsh’s “Clair de Lune.” Admission is $35 and the program may be viewed as many times as you like through Jan. 5. A world of art at The Ringling A new exhibition will be frequently changing for visitors to the Ringling Museum. “For Real This Time” is a new video installation that explores social justice issues through the work of eight different artists. Deanna Bowen’s “sum of the parts: what can be named, 2010 is the opening feature through Jan. 7. The artist videos, which continue through May 16, examine “the current state of American society and pose uncomfortable yet vital questions about personal and collective attitudes toward issues of race and inequality,” according to the museum. Coming up are videos by Allison Janae Hamilton, John Sims, Cauleen Smith, Martine Syms, Kara Walker and Bear Witness.
