Decatur elementary school principal charged with domestic violence

The principal of Banks-Caddell Elementary School in Decatur was arrested over the weekend on domestic violence charges.
WHNT is reporting that David Allan McCollum, 40, was arrested on two domestic violence warrants by Arab police late last week.
McCollum was charged with two counts of third-degree domestic violence, one for assault and another for menacing involving a gun. Both charges are misdemeanors.
Arab police said the warrants were for an incident that happened March 14 in the 500 block of Fairway Drive.
Decatur City Schools spokesman Dwight Satterfield said McCollum’s last day as principal was March 12, and he was placed on administrative leave March 19. On March 26, the Decatur City Board of Education decided not to renew his contract, which expires June 30, Satterfield said. ....

The Morgan County Health Department’s plan to administer vaccines on an accelerated timetable to educators and others scheduled to become eligible next week had to be reversed Monday after the vaccine supply ran short.
Decatur Morgan Hospital is also out of first-dose vaccines. Both Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, the only two that have received federal authorization, require two doses. ....

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Students at Decatur City Schools returned to class today following the holiday break, but virtually.
This decision comes due to the rising COVID case numbers in Morgan County.
Administrators made the decision to return from the break with online classes before Christmas.
They say they expected a spike in cases.
Decatur City Schools Deputy Superintendent Dwight Satterfield says they anticipated people would be in quarantine right now following the holiday season. ....
