Verdant approves funding for $2.5 million in community health grants

During the Verdant Health Commission’s recent funding cycle, the board of commissioners approved more than $2.5 million in grants. These funds will be put directly into South Snohomish County to address community health and well-being needs.
The grants listed below will support 14 different multi-year projects or programs run by 13 organizations, totaling $2.56 million (annual budgets for each project are listed):
Cascade Bicycle Club – Let’s Go Edmonds bicycle and pedestrian safety education program for youth – $50,000
Center for Human Services – School-based Youth Counseling Program – $350,000
Compass Health – Community Transitions Program for mental health support working with the South County Fire Community Paramedic Program – $151,627 ....

Dental care wasn’t the first worry for most people when the pandemic brought life to a screeching halt last Spring. 
Schools, places of work, and restaurants all closed their doors. Day-to-day routines were shattered. Among all of this, health care started becoming an issue. People couldn’t see hospitalized family members, and previously basic procedures become near impossible feats. 
Mellie Burns, center, EBCI/PHHS Children’s Dental Program manager, delivered 700 oral health kits to the Cherokee Elementary School on the morning of Thursday, April 8. Mattoon virtual Holiday Festival exceeds expectations


MATTOON — Sarah Bush Lincoln’s 22nd annual Holiday Festival was an enormous success.
Held virtually for the first time, the event raised nearly $100,000 to support the SBL Children’s Dental Program.
“We had to get really creative this year during these unprecedented times. Our goal from the beginning was to offer the community some familiarity while keeping everyone safe, and the community responded very generously to help provide dental care to children in need. Sponsorships and donations raised a record $52,000 and bidding on both silent and live auction items did extremely well despite the challenge of this not being an in-person event,” SBL event coordinator Kim Lockart said. ....
