A study published in July 2020 hypothesized a link between the presence of bradykinin, a well-known peptide, and severe cases of COVID-19. Vardan Karamyan, Ph.D., an associate professor and vice chair for the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, had not previously conducted or evaluated any research related to COVID-19. AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Panhandle Great 25 Nurses is an opportunity to recognize Registered Nurses from all practice areas for their contributions to the communities in which they live and practice both the art and science of nursing.
The success of the past four annual recognition events has allowed the Great 25 committee to allocate $33,000 in scholarships for nurses to continue to pursue and advance their education in the field of professional nursing and to provide healthcare to the citizens in their respective Panhandle communities.
This year eight students will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship. ....

In its 2021-22 edition of the “Global 2000 List by the Center for World University Rankings” released April 26, the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center ranked among the top 7.4% of 20,000 universities worldwide for 2020-21, according to a news release from Tech.
TTUHSC achieved an overall score of 67.9 for an overall world ranking of 1,406. The university was ranked 281 among U.S. universities and 317 regionally, which includes U.S. and Canadian colleges and universities.
In addition, TTUHSC was ranked as the 1,386th best university worldwide for research performance. The CWUR research performance rankings comprise 40% of a university’s overall ranking and are measured by: research output (total number of research articles – 10%); high-quality publications (total number of research articles published by top-tier journals – 10%); research influence (total number of res ....

Physician Assistant program under expansion at Tech Permian Basin campus


Texas Tech has now expanded upon the current physician assistant program to produce more of these well-rounded individuals in the medical field.
Christina Robohm-Leavitt is the regional dean and physician program director at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Leavitt described what a physician assistant is, what their responsibilities are and what is required to get into the Tech program.
“A physician assistant is a highly educated medical provider who can do most of what a physician can do,” Leavitt said. “We can take medical histories, do physical exams, give diagnoses or have lab tests and write prescriptions.”
Leavitt said the physician’s program at Tech requires that the applicant have a baccalaureate degree since the program is a masters level program. There are also a couple of prerequisite courses within the basic and behavioral sciences and a minimum GPA requirement is a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.  ....
