Marybeth Hansen dubbed Teton County's volunteer of the year

Marybeth Hansen is Teton County s 2020 volunteer of the year.
Thank you, Marybeth, for your time, dedication and commitment to making the Teton County Fair one of the best in the West, Commission Chairwoman Natalia D. Macker said Monday.
Hansen has served on the Teton County Fair Board for a decade and as its chair twice. One of those stints was in 2020, when the fair faced significant challenges because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
âMarybeth was tasked with leading the board through, perhaps, the most uncertain and difficult planning process the Fair has ever experienced,â Teton County Fair and Fairgrounds Manager Rachel Grimes said in a press release. âDespite the Fair Board having to make the hard decision to cancel all the entertainment portions of the 2020 Fair, Marybeth made the most out of the Fair we were able to put on in 2020 â and we ended up having one of the most successful years ever in terms of open class Exhibit Hall and Horse Show en ....

âThe very simple bottom line is that the Teton County Health Department has neither the staff nor the funding to support this,â David Peterson told fellow board members Tuesday. âMy suspicion is this is not going to be an inexpensive endeavor. The working committee arrived at the consensus that itâs not the time right now, at least, to consider implementing these rules and regulations.â

Water policy trickles forward in closed subcommittee

Volunteer public health officials are examining special rules intended to protect residents from nitrate pollution in drinking water, but theyâre developing those rules in closed sessions that are off limits to some interested parties.
The policy proposal that the Teton District Board of Health is considering would increase surveillance and create a system to warn when nitrates climb above natural levels, which can indicate contamination of an aquifer from septic systems or other causes. Thatâs an idea proposed by Wyoming Outdoor Council senior conservation advocate and attorney Dan Heilig, who wishes the special protections werenât being discussed behind closed doors. ....

County seeks nominations for best volunteer board member of 2020

Teton County is seeking nominations for its Volunteer Board Member of the Year Award.
âVolunteers are the cornerstone of our Boards and are vital to raising awareness in the communities in which they live and work,â Natalia Macker, chair of the Teton County Board of County Commissioners, said in a press release. âThe Volunteer Board [Member] of the Year Award was created to recognize those outstanding volunteers whose unselfish and dedicated service has made a difference in our community.â
