Detroit Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Friday cited substantial and extensive legal deficiencies in her decision to reject proposed revisions for Detroit s City Charter.
The governor wrote in a letter to Detroit Charter Revision Commission Chairwoman Carol Weaver that the revised charter includes provisions that could cause a financial crisis for the city and that will require close study by the city s Financial Review Commission that was installed as a component of Detroit s bankruptcy, according to a copy of the letter released Friday.
If the proposed revisions cause a financial crisis, the FRC could then revoke the city of Detroit s and the Detroit Public School Community District s waiver, requiring the FRC to regain full oversight over the city s and school district s finances, Whitmer wrote. Two 4-H alumni from Alpena County took top honors recently in the Adult Division at the 2021 Michigan 4-H Skillathon Championship. Jennifer (Cripps) Wasson’s score earned her the tittle of State Champion for the Adult Division. Holly Glomski scored within the top five in the adult division for Michigan. Both women participated in 4-H in Alpena County as youth; going on to careers and continuing as 4-H volunteers.
Wasson grew up showing livestock with Alpena County 4-H. She was active in 4-H, winning in Master Stockman contest in 1989, and being named Alpena County 4-H’er of the year in the fall of 1995. ....

Lansing Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is strongly urging Michigan s high schools to suspend in-person classes and youth sports for two weeks as well as asking diners to avoid eating at restaurant indoors for the same period to combat a surge in cases and hospitalizations.

US State Department levels up diplomacy with new video game exchange program

DUBAI: The US State Department is levelling up its diplomacy with a new project that would virtually link up nearly 3,000 students from Bahrain, Israel, the UAE and the US for a creative collaboration on video games and game design.
Nonprofit group Games for Change’s (G4C) Game Exchange virtual exchange program is one of the 19 grantees under the state department’s Stevens Initiative announced for this year.
Under the two-year project, students would join peers from other countries to form ‘game studios’ and collaborate virtually to create games, facilitated by classroom teachers trained in G4C’s game design curriculum. G4C advocates and empowers game creators and social innovators to drive real-world impact through games and immersive media. ....
