Philip Martin says he will miss working to help children the most. 
Terrebonne Parish s public schools superintendent for the past 14 years will retire when his contract expires in June 2022. He made the announcement to the School Board last week. 
Martin, 69, has served over 40 years in Terrebonne s public school system.  
“It has been an honor and privilege to serve as superintendent for as long as I have,” Martin said. “It has been very rewarding and enjoyable but there is a time for everything, and after 14 years, it’s time to close one chapter and move to another. I will miss serving the children.” ....

Historic Houma American Indian school: Federal court to hear lawsuit May 3


A federal judge in New Orleans has scheduled a hearing for May 3 on a lawsuit filed by the United Houma Nation contesting the sale of a historic school building in Houma.
The tribe filed the lawsuit in February against the Terrebonne Parish School Board. The tribe claims the board sold the Daigleville School for half its appraised value without notifying the tribe.
The board sold the school property to Walter Guidry of Montegut for $115,000, according to the suit.
The school, at 8542 E. Main St. in Houma, was jointly run by the United Houma Nation and the School Board under an agreement signed in May 2015, the lawsuit says. ....
