Austin's Dell Children's performs second heart transplant


On Jan. 26, 13-year-old Grace Jennings from San Antonio became the second person to receive a heart transplant from Dell Children s Medical Center of Central Texas.
When mom Jamie Jennings got the call that a heart had been found for Grace, she says, I felt like I can breathe. I knew we were on borrowed time.
After the surgery, when Grace was brought from the operating room to the cardiac intensive care unit, Jennings looked at her daughter and saw Grace looking healthy for the first time in her life.
I ve never seen Grace peach, says Jennings. She was a beautiful peach color and wasn t swollen. ....

Dell Children's receives $2 million donation for Fetal Center

Dell Children s Foundation is proud to announce it has received a $2 million charitable donation from The Floyd A. and Kathleen C. Cailloux Foundation in Kerrville, Texas. The generous gift is dedicated to supporting the new Fetal Center at Dell Children s, ensuring the best diagnosis and treatment of abnormalities in unborn and newborn infants with world-class care close to home.
In Texas, more than 24,000 babies are born each year with at least one major structural malformation or chromosomal anomaly such as spina bifida, cleft palate or lip, and congenital heart conditions.
This generous gift will help provide the specialized high-quality care for at-risk pregnant women and fragile newborns, said Dr. Kenneth Moise Jr., director of the newly developed Fetal Center at Dell Children s in partnership with UT Health Austin, the clinical practice of the Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin.
