Train services resumed in Amritsar, Punjab yesterday after farm union suspended 169-day long 'dharna' on tracks ahead of the wheat harvest season, reports
ANI.
"Dharna at Jandiala Guru Railway Station has been suspended for the time being, and the passenger trains are operational now", said Gurpreet Khera, Deputy Commissioner.
Previously, due to the blockade, Amritsar-bound trains had to be diverted to other stations and passengers were taken to Amritsar through buses and other vehicles.
A group of farmers had been squatting on the railway tracks to protest the new farm laws. Ahead of the wheat harvest season, they decided to open up the tracks as the blockade would cause loss to them as well as the traders.
