On July 12, Gowhar Manzoor Gannie, 10, along with his two peers went for a bath to a nearby pond at Dever Lolab. The pond is an attraction among the locals, particularly children. Every year, as the mercury rises, the young men and the children of the nearby places throng the pond to beat the heat.
But on this unfortunate day, Gannie chose the wrong time to get into its waters. At around 10 am, he along with his friends went for a bath without informing his parents. As soon as they went into the waters, Gannie took a deeper dive and vanished. His other two friends raised the alarm but there was nobody around. They went rushing to a nearby shop and informed an adult person there. He rushed to the pond and pulled Gannie’s leg. But it was already too late. Gannie had already died. ....

Dr Shamim Wani, a senior Jammu and Kashmir government officer, has died of Covid-19 at Jammu.
Dr Shamim Ahmed Wani, 54, a 1999 batch KAS officer, currently posted as Special Secretary Finance, died of Covid-19 at Jammu Medical College. He had given only two years out of the finance department when he was DC Kulgam. His death has shocked his colleagues who knew him as positive, soft-spoken and somebody who knew his job well, the public finance. A resident of Pandach in the Srinagar periphery, Shamim is survived by his wife, a dental surgeon, and a daughter who has just been enrolled for graduation. His sister; a widow, was also almost dependent on the officer. ....

SRINAGAR: In a yet another achievement, An alumnus of DPS Srinagar, Taha Kaleem has been selected as the Berkley Center-Pulitzer Center International Reporting Fellow for summer 2021. He had secured admission to the Georgetown Washington University on a full scholarship in 2018.
The fellowship, made possible through a partnership between the Berkley Center and the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, offers one Georgetown student annually the opportunity to pursue a journalistic project that investigates the religious dimension of an international issue. Projects aim to bring to light what is often overlooked, untold, or misunderstood. His project will explore Sufi shrines as sites of interfaith peacebuilding in Kashmir. ....

SRINAGAR: Maleeha Zehra, a student of Class XII at Delhi Public School Srinagar secured admission in the prestigious Georgetown Washington University, School of Foreign Services, Qatar on a full scholarship worth US$70,000 for the August 2021 batch.

SRINAGAR: Delhi Pubilc School Srinagar has awarded the Satya Devi Amla Prize and a two year fully funded scholarship to Parveena Ayoub of Ganderbal who scored 490 out of 500 in her class X examination despite of all hardships and struggles. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 50000.
Parveena Ayoub a resident of Ganderbal district, who scored 490 out of 500 marks in class 10th examination
Parveena’s father, Ayoub, has to support a family of six including his four daughters and wife and the family lives in a single – room tin shed with the minimum source of income. Coming from a financially weak background, Parveena soared through all the hardships and with perseverance and efforts, she managed to secure good grades by living in a single tin room with her siblings & parents. ....
