Windsor man serving nearly five years for sex-related offences involving minor

WINDSOR, ONT.
An East Windsor pizza maker is now serving a four year and ten-month jail sentence for having a sexual relationship with a girl who was 13-years-old at the time of the offence.
Daniel Eichner was charged in February 2018 by Windsor police with three counts of sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching with a person under the age of 16.
Eichner was 29 years old between late 2017 and early 2018 when the incidents with the victim occurred.
At the beginning of his trial in July 2020, Eichner plead not guilty and maintained he had made an honest mistake about the victim’s age. ....

Eichner, who appeared on video in a white dress shirt and tie, initially balked, saying “I wasn’t quite ready,” before apologizing.
“I apologize for everything that’s happened,” Eichner said. “It’s had a huge impact on my life.”
He said he wished he had been more aware, more knowledgeable and more educated “to what I was doing. I’ll definitely be more aware of my decisions.”
Near the end of his remarks he added: “Sorry for the family.”
During trial, Eichner’s lawyer Patrick Ducharme argued a “mistake-of-age defence,” saying Eichner believed the young girl he was involved with was at least the age of consent, or 16. ....
