Street food heads inside with delicious results

In Santa Fe, calling your new restaurant Horno means staking a bold claim. By referencing the oldest oven around, the name conjures up a fine-dining venture that might try to encapsulate the City Different’s oldest influences. View Comments
It has been nearly a year since demonstrators called on Iowa City to restructure a police department that they believe has historically been used to reinforce a white power structure.
On Tuesday, that discussion dominated two meetings of city officials, showing again that there is no clear agreement about what police reform will look like.
The issue at one meeting was whether it would be better to give police officers some discretion over when they carry their handguns on a call: for example, into a school building. Some City Council members and those who serve on a citizen-led police board wondered if armed officers sometimes bring tension into otherwise-benign situations. ....

Anna Shuttleworth, brilliant cello teacher who inspired many star players of the future – obituary

Anna Shuttleworth, brilliant cello teacher who inspired many star players of the future – obituary
Drama and excitement mattered more to her than perfection: ‘Play anything, don’t worry about the notes’ was her advice to a worried student
Anna Shuttleworth and the pianist Bernard Roberts in 1969: they often gave recitals
Anna Shuttleworth, who has died aged 93, was a cellist and cello teacher who worked with many of the leading musicians of the second half of the 20th century, ranging from her fellow cellists Jacqueline du Pré and Natalie Clein to conductors such as Colin Davis and John Eliot Gardiner.
Her best years of music-making came in the late 1940 and early 1950s as a member of the all-female Vivien Hind Quartet, the Kalmar Chamber Orchestra and the Jacques Orchestra. She was a true eccentric, dealing with chilly concert halls by wearing several layers of clothing, which during a concert would be removed between movements. ....
