FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. Many teenagers who just graduated high school are getting ready to start a new chapter.
It s a fresh start in college after a chaotic couple of years in the pandemic, and for some, it will be free, thanks to a statewide grant.

Davidson-Davie students aid vaccinations through technician program

The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic has brought into focus the need for more professionals who are authorized to administer vaccinations and other immunizations. In response, eleven graduates of the Davidson-Davie Community College are among the first community college students in the state to be certified as immunizing technicians.
Through a partnership with the American Pharmacists Association, those certified at Davidson-Davie through its pharmacy technology program are helping improve the overall health of the population by positioning themselves to increase immunization rates.

It hasn’t been that long ago since people with developmental or intellectual disabilities were locked in institutions and defined by negative stereotypes.
Since the Disabilities Rights Movement in the 1970s, much improvement has been made in how these citizens are educated and included with the rest of the community, but there is still a tinge of “nanny-ism” when it comes to how they are treated by caregivers.
