West Virginia PT Students: This Education Agreement Could Benefit You
Davis & Elkins College and Marshall University have entered a collaboration that will benefit students pursuing graduate study in physical therapy. The agreement offers two D&E graduates, who meet specific criteria, acceptance into the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Marshall University School of Physical Therapy.
While an increasing number of Davis & Elkins students show an interest in entering the field, Professor of Sport Science Dr. Mary Ann DeLuca and Assistant Professor of Sport Science Dr. Jennifer Riggleman worked with leaders at Marshall University College of Health Professions to reach the agreement. ....

7-foot center Michael Durr is transferring to Indiana

Indiana quickly filled its available scholarship opening on Monday when 7-foot center Michael Durr announced he is transferring to the program.
Coming to IU from South Florida, Durr is immediately eligible with two years remaining and adds much needed experience in the post to the roster. Durr announced the news on his Twitter page.
“Let’s get it Hoosier nation,” he wrote in his post.
An Atlanta native, the 250 pound Durr averaged 8.8 points and a team-high 7.9 rebounds for American Athletic Conference member South Florida as a junior last season. His rebound average was fourth in the conference, and his 2.9 offensive rebounds were second. Durr also shot 79 percent from the free throw line. He averaged 26.4 minutes and blocked a team-high 18 shots. Durr played each of his first three seasons at USF, starting 85 of his 87 career games. ....

Throughout the history of Davis & Elkins College, there have been a handful of individuals whose transformational leadership and commitment have fundamentally altered the trajectory of this institution. St. Louis resident Mr. James S. McDonnell III deserves an honored place on this elite list.
Mr. McDonnell’s journey with Davis & Elkins College began when his daughter, Marcella McDonnell Stevens, enrolled at D&E in 1981. Four years later, at her graduation, Jim provided the commencement address. At that ceremony, he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws. Jim and Elizabeth “Libby” McDonnell began their generous financial support of the College at that time. An endowed faculty chair in business and economics was a result of Mr. McDonnell’s generosity, and was given in honor of Dr. Gloria M. Payne who was highly influential to Marcella McDonnell during her years as a student. ....

Kump Education Research Seminar has changed over the years, but it is always a time to observe progress in local teacher education. When we began in 2011, it was a research competition for students from Alderson-Broadus, Davis & Elkins, and WV Wesleyan Colleges. Last April during the dark days of Covid-19 shutdown we did not actually meet, but aspiring teacher Skylee Watson sent in her research and earned an award. This year we had nine people in the room, and others could participate on Zoom.
Vanessa Collette and Samantha Westfall, future teachers in EDUC 312/313 at Davis & Elkins College, presented WebQuests for sixth grade distance learners. A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which students find information from the web. The teacher provides documents including links to websites with information needed for the class activity. A sample lesson plan incorporated passages from Ghost Boys and readings from the Civil Rights and Black Liv ....
