ELKINS One of the main roads through downtown will be closed today through Friday, Elkins officials said.
S. Davis Avenue, between First and 11th Streets, will be closing at 7 a.m. today and will remain closed through Friday. Local traffic only will be permitted southbound to 10th Street.
“It is related to the sewer/stormwater separation project,” a city official told The Inter-Mountain Monday afternoon.
As part of Phase II of the sewer/stormwater project, crews will eventually excavate sections of 15 city streets and alleys in the neighborhood west of Wimer Field to install new, dedicated stormwater lines and related infrastructure components, including manholes and catch basins, according to information from city officials.

ELKINS The newest phase of the city of Elkins’ sewer separation project has gotten off to “a little bit of a rocky start,” a city official said.
In last week’s Elkins City Council meeting, Operations Manager Bob Pingley gave an update on the project, which got underway Feb. 1.
“Phase II of the sewer separation project … got off to a little bit of a rocky start,” Pingley said. “It’s a very deep trench, with very poor soil in South Elkins.
“We had some problems with close proximity to water lines. But I think we’ve worked through these problems, and now that the weather’s improving that’s going to help us too,” he said.
Community Investor, Owner of Great Harvest Bakery
In this series of articles about Community Investment, David Kesling, owner of Great Harvest Bakery answers the question, “Why did you invest in Elkins and why do you continue to invest?”
There’s nothing better than the smell of fresh baked bread that reminds you of your grandma’s kitchen. That’s exactly what I wanted to replicate when I decided to open Great Harvest Bakery. Both of my grandmothers were great bakers growing up and it inspired me to open a from scratch bakery for the community of Elkins, which was something we didn’t have! We officially opened our doors last November in the middle of COVID-19, but despite those added challenges and protocols, Great Harvest is flourishing.
