Mogo to nearly double stake in Coinsquare to 37 percent
Vancouver FinTech company Mogo has announced plans to increase its ownership position in Coinsquare by purchasing an additional 5.4 million common shares in the Toronto-based cryptocurrency startup.
The two firms have entered an agreement that will see Mogo grow its ownership stake in Coinsquare from almost 20 to 37 percent. To achieve this, Mogo intends to pay between $46.9 million CAD and $48.6 million total, in either cash or common shares. Mogo also holds a warrant that, if exercised, would permit the Vancouver company to increase its Coinsquare stake to 48 percent.

Fluence Technologies raises $12.5 million CAD, swaps CEOs to fuel next phase of growth
Toronto FinTech software startup Fluence Technologies has closed a $12.5 million CAD ($10 million USD) Series A round from Banneker Partners, as it looks to bring its financial close and consolidation software to more mid-sized companies, and expand its presence in Europe.
The startup has also appointed performance management software veteran Michael Morrison as its new CEO. Morrison is replacing Fluence’s founding CEO John Power, who is transitioning to COO. In the new role, Power will focus on customer success and guide Fluence’s product vision.

Payfare’s IPO reaches $75.2 million following exercise of over-allotment option
Toronto FinTech startup Payfare’s initial public offering (IPO) has increased to $75.2 million following an over-allotment option exercised by the transaction’s underwriters.
Payfare, which filed to go public in February, initially closed $65.4 million for its IPO in mid-March and currently trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) under the symbol “PAY.”
Payfare is one of many Canadian tech companies that have turned to public markets in recent months.
Payfare granted the underwriters an over-allotment option that was exercisable for 30 days following closing to purchase up to an additional 1,635,000 common shares at the offering price of $6 per share, which would bring in additional gross proceeds of up to $9.8 million. Toronto FinTech company Purpose Financial has secured $53.5 million CAD from Allianz X, with the German investor acquiring a minority stake in the company. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approval.
UPDATE 01/02/2021: Allianz X’s investment in Purpose Finacial officially closed as of March 1, 2021.
Allianz X is the digital, FinTech-focused investment unit of Allianz Group, a global insurance and asset management firm. Allianz joins existing Purpose investors OMERS and TorQuest.
