Names of local heroes, as well as King, are displayed on the four rectangular panels. Civil Rights icon Rosa Parks and abolitionist Harriet Tubman blazed a trail of change in different locations but share a Hampton connection. Tubman was a Union Army spy and scout, and a conductor on the Underground Railroad. The abolitionist also served as matron of Fort Monroe’s contraband hospital in 1865 during the Civil War.
