Ribbon cut at Umbagog Lake State Park bathhouse

CAMBRIDGE â âThis bathhouse probably has the best view of any in our whole country,â said Commissioner Sarah Stewart of the state Department of Natural and Cultural Resources during a ribbon-cutting on Thursday, July 15, at Lake Umbagog State Park.
The ceremony officially marked the completion of the new two-story structure overlooking the 7,850-acre shallow lake rimmed by forested mountains.
COVID-19 distancing and mask requirements prevented the state from marking the occasion in 2020 when the bathhouse was first opened to public use in the state-owned campground off Route 26.
The Division of Parks and Recreation calls the handsome shingled building a visitor services building because its facilities include both menâs and womenâs toilet rooms, a family bathroom, three showers, a laundry room, and pot-washing and dishwashing area. ....

CONCORD â Three big-ticket capital projects in the 60.3-acre Mount Washington State Park will be built and paid for with federal funds available under the American Rescue Plan and state and local fiscal recovery funds designed to boost the post-pandemic economy.
The N.H Division of Parks and Recreation of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources sought $22.5-plus-million federal dollars to pay for various capital projects at state parks across New Hampshire.
Both members of the Legislative Fiscal Committee and governor and Executive Council quickly greenlighted this bold âask.â
Nearly a quarter of the total sum â $5,495,000 â will be spent on the 6,288-foot summit: $3 million to replace its undersized and failing sewage treatment plant; $1,020,000 to upgrade its water system and $1,475,000 on maintaining the integrity of the Sherman Adams Summit Building and ensuring compliance with todayâs life safety codes. ....

All Ireland winning minor and under 21 boss Sean Power is back as manager of the Waterford under 14 hurlers this season.
The Mount Sion man jumped at the opportunity. “Jonathan Moore is coordinating the hurling side of the academy teams and he approached me a couple of months back to see if I would be interested in getting involved. I have very fond memories from when I initially got involved in 2007 with regional teams and then the 2008 Sonny Walsh and the 2009 Tony Forristal. I had good times and made some great friends. At my core is Waterford hurling. I’ve said this time and time again, anything Sean Power can do to help Waterford’s development, he will do to help. And I mean that. If my spot in the jigsaw of it all is that under 14 academy level coach, then provided I do my job, it will make our ultimate goal easier to attain. We’re all part of a very big team on this. If my job in this team is to get the play ....
