Yolonda 'Yogi Dada' Carter: The Essence of an Artist

Yolonda “Yogi Dada” Carter’s artistry is limited only by her imagination.
Carter has produced a work she’s named GRAFFICA which is set to premiere on February 12 as part of ArtWorks@TheDJD, a new cutting-edge digital performance series that will feature short-form multi-media content by local artists presented online to virtual audiences across Alabama and beyond.
The series itself begins January 29. “To be a part of the series is a blessing and the DJD team has been stellar,” she said, referring to the Dorothy Jemison Day Theater at the Alabama School of Fine Arts.
Yogi Dada describes GRAFFICA as a type of gumbo for the soul, blending her artwork with poetry, music, rap, dance and storytelling. ....

For years, the Dorothy Jemison Day Theater (DJD) at the Alabama School of Fine Arts (ASFA) has been a venue for top-notch live performances in theater, dance, music, and more. Last year, however, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the DJD to close its doors to audiences.
On January 29, the DJD stage is alive again with the premier of ArtWorks@TheDJD, a new cutting-edge digital performance series; additional installments will be released on February 5 and 12. The series will feature short-form multimedia content by local artists presented online to virtual audiences across Alabama and beyond. ....

BIRMINGHAM, AL The Dorothy Jemison Day Theater at Alabama School of Fine Arts has announced its ArtWorks@TheDJD program, a new digital performance series premiering Jan. 29.
Due to the spread of COVID-19, the DJD Theater has been unable to offer in-person events and performances on its stage since March of 2020. This series continues the theater’s mission of bringing the arts to the local and state community and supporting artists. ....
