Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria has a new tool to help critically-ill COVID-19 patients.
It s now the only hospital between San Francisco and Los Angeles with an ECMO machine.
It s a life-saving piece of equipment that one Santa Maria woman says she would not be alive without.
Melissa Meza and her husband, Luis, tested positive for COVID-19 last March and were admitted to Marian Regional Medical Center within days of each other.

Mark Smith, a successful construction entrepreneur and real estate developer, built both homes and commercial properties in Santa Maria.
The developer is best known for Foxenwoods Estates involving 900 custom homes and 240 townhomes in Orcutt. He also developed Foxenwood Country Club Estates consisting of 143 custom homes near to the Santa Maria Country Club.

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Marian Regional Medical Center has received a new piece of technology to treat critically-ill COVID-19 patients.
The Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) medical technology was made possible thanks to the support of the Mark and Dorothy Smith Family Foundation.
This equipment can also be used for those experiencing other life-threatening conditions.
Marian’s ECMO is now treating several patients.
Marian is currently the only hospital between the San Francisco Bay and Los Angeles with this advanced life-saving equipment, so patients don t have to travel outside the area for care. ....
