Sonora, CA–June kicks off with a Tuolumne Couty Board of Supervisors meeting that will be discussing a variety of topics. Approving an Amendment with Mariposa County for an Interim Health officer is on the agenda. Additionally, there will be a presentation on Tuolumne County’s Master Stewardship agreement with the Stanislaus National Forest on behalf of Yosemite Stanislaus Solutions.
With all signs pointing to a busy fire season, County Administrator Tracie Riggs will be giving a presentation on Disaster and Wilfire Preparedness resources in Tuolumne County. That won’t be the only presentation, the Supervisors will also be hearing about Tuolumne County’s Master Stewardship agreement with the Stanislaus National Forest on behalf of Yosemite Stanislaus Solutions.
Archer & Hound Leaders Speak Before Supervisors
Sonora, CA The supervisors in Tuolumne County endorsed the idea of hiring an outside company to help with public relations and social media efforts.
The contract would be in an amount “not to exceed $100,000” with the advertising agency Archer & Hound. The Fresno-based company has been in business since 2006.
CAO Tracie Riggs opened the presentation to the board of supervisors today by stating that she has organized various community town halls, and “Meet the CAO” events, but they all had very little attendance. She noted that community members would rather engage virtually and believes hiring the outside company is a way to increase transparency.
Tuolumne County Government Building
Sonora, CA Tuolumne County needs to pass a fiscal year 2021-22 budget ahead of July 1st, and the current shortfall is estimated to be around $1.6-million.
CAO Tracie Riggs delivered a presentation to the board of supervisors that was much more upbeat than recent years. Referencing the deficit, Riggs says, “That is the smallest amount that I can remember us having to deal with in a very long time. It is because we are so lean and have been so conservative. But it also is a budget that has no concessions and no layoffs being recommended, and I’m really happy we were able to get there.”

State Board of Forestry is moving Tuolumne County towards a “No Build” Community
The State Board of Forestry decided to move the March 15, 2021 draft of Revised State Fire Safe Regulations ahead, without revision, into a 45-day public comment period, ultimately intending to adopt them as State law. This will dictate oppressive requirements for development and construction in our county. Within high fire zones (which the majority of our county and rural California fall under), if any type of building permit is taken out, the landowner would be required to bring roads up to modern standards all the way from their property out to the next fully-conforming collector road. This would be unattainable for most folks as the costs would be astronomical. Numerous parcels would instantly be (administratively) undevelopable, and therefore instantly worthless. In March, our Board sent a letter of opposition to the Board of Forestry (https://legistarweb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/u
