Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett announced that ten parks across the city will now offer open-access wireless internet to underserved communities.
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and other leaders announced on Thursday, April 29 that ten parks across the city will now offer open-access wireless internet to underserved communities from 5 a.m. through 9 p.m. daily.
It is our ultimate goal to make certain that every part of this city has both affordable and accessible Wi-Fi connections, said Mayor Barrett. We have our city structures. We have the ability to expand that into the city parks that are adjacent to the city buildings and this is going to give more accessibility to residents in our city. ....

Open-access wireless internet now available at 10 Milwaukee parks

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett announced ten parks adjacent to City buildings are offering open-access wireless internet from 5 a.m. – 9 p.m. in underserved communities across the city.

According to a news release, the project, at a cost of more than $100,000, was funded by CARES Act dollars and is a partnership between the City’s Information Technology Management Division and other city agencies.

10 Milwaukee parks getting free Wi-Fi, providing internet access

Ten Milwaukee parks in underserved areas now have open-access wireless internet or will be getting it soon, Mayor Tom Barrett announced Thursday.
The COVID-19 pandemic has made affordable and reliable internet access a necessity for our residents working and schooling from home, Barrett said during a news conference.
The city is covered with Wi-Fi coverage, but there are certain parts that aren t serviced, he said.
This became an issue I became intimately familiar with when the schools went virtual and working with the Milwaukee Public Schools to try to make sure that all kids who attended school who were now attending their classes in Zoom fashion were able to have access to education, Barrett said. ....
