Worldwide PC shipments increase 32% in first quarter, Lenovo leads


Worldwide PC shipments reached 69.9 million units in the first quarter of this year, a growth of 32 per cent from the first quarter of 2020, according to Gartner.
The top three vendors in the worldwide PC market remained unchanged from the previous quarter, with Lenovo maintaining the top spot by shipments, said the report.
All of the top six vendors experienced double-digit growth, and all, except Dell, gained market share compared to a year ago
This growth should be viewed in the context of two unique factors: comparisons against a pandemic-constrained market and the current global semiconductor shortage, Mikako Kitagawa, Research Director at Gartner. ....

DoT to issue guidelines for implementation of PLI in telecom within week


The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is likely to issue guidelines on implementation of production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes for manufacturers in the sector and start inviting applications for the same in about a week, according to government officials.
Telecom gear makers firms such as Ericsson and Nokia are keen to expand their operations in India, and global companies like Samsung, Cisco, Ciena and Foxconn have shown interest to set up manufacturing bases in the country for telecom and networking products for domestic and export markets.
Telecom PLI has already been approved by the government. The DoT is ready with guidelines to implement it, application format, incentive allocation, etc. It should be published on the DoT website within a week, the official, who did not wish to be named, told PTI. ....

APSEZ, Tata Communications, AU Small Finance Bank in focus


Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) received a Letter of Intent (LOI) from the Ministry of Ports and Shipping of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, acting on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka, pursuant to approval from the Sri Lankan Cabinet of Ministers for the development and operations of West Container Terminal (WCT) in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The offer for sale (OFS) of the Government of India s (GoI) equity in Tata Communications would open on March 16. The central government would divest 10% shares in the company along with an additional 6.12% as Green Shoe Option.
AU Small Finance Bank said that the Capital Raising Committee of Board of Directors of the bank approved allotment of 50,00,000 equity shares at the issue price of Rs 1251 per equity share, aggregating to Rs. 625.50 crore pursuant to the QIP issue. ....

Telecom shares rise


Telecom stocks were trading with gains, with the S&P BSE Telecom index rising 13.11 points or 0.98% at 1353.11 at 09:48 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Telecom index, Indus Towers Ltd (up 3.63%), OnMobile Global Ltd (up 3.39%),Vodafone Idea Ltd (up 2.78%),HFCL Ltd (up 1.97%),Bharti Airtel Ltd (up 1.1%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were GTPL Hathway Ltd (up 1.09%), Sterlite Technologies Ltd (up 0.67%), Reliance Communications Ltd (up 0.52%), Vindhya Telelinks Ltd (up 0.14%), and ITI Ltd (up 0.08%).
On the other hand, Tata Communications Ltd (down 6.09%), Tejas Networks Ltd (down 1.67%), and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (down 0.65%) moved lower.
At 09:48 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 113.06 or 0.22% at 50508.14. ....

HFCL gains on plan to acquire 50% in Nimpaa Telecom


HFCL rose 1.79% to Rs 28.40 after the company said it plans to acquire upto 50% stake in Nimpaa Telecommunications by subscribing its equity shares in one or more tranches.
HFCL will pay a cash consideration of Rs 1 crore for acquiring 50% of the diluted paid-up equity share capital of Nimpaa Telecommunications (Nimpaa). The acquisition will be completed by April 2021.
Nimpaa is a newly incorporated company and no financials have been prepared. It was incorporated to carry on the business of manufacturing all types of equipment, components, accessories and cables required for telecommunication systems, networks and services.
HFCL is acquiring stake in Nimpaa, keeping in line with thrust on addition of new telecom network products in the field of communications, specifically Aramid Reinforced Plastic (ARP) rods. ARP rods shall be manufactured and supplied by Nimpaa for HFCL, its subsidiaries and associate companies captive consumption. ....
