The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Finger Lakes Land Trust announced the acquisition of a conservation easement on 126 acres in the town of Caroline in the Six Mile Creek Watershed as part of New York State’s Water Quality Improvement Project Program.
DEC awarded FLLT more than $641,000 in a WQIP grant for this and other projects in the Six Mile Creek Watershed to help protect the city of Ithaca’s public drinking water supply. ....

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has announced a proposed nutrient pollution reduction “budget” for Cayuga Lake to help protect drinking water quality and restore the water quality of the lake’s southern end for recreation.
The draft Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for the lake released today provides a detailed analysis of phosphorus pollutant sources and recommends a 30 percent reduction of phosphorus loads to the Cayuga Lake watershed. ....

DRYDEN, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Finger Lakes Land Trust announces the establishment of a perpetual conservation easement in Dryden’s Six Mile Creek watershed.
The easement will help protect public water supplies for the city of Ithaca and surrounding communities.
The 13-and-a-half-acre parcel will include efforts to restore the stream bank, preventing potential contaminants from entering the water.
It was funded in part through New York’s Water Quality Improvement Project Program.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Finger Lakes Land Trust says it has established a perpetual conservation easement on a priority parcel in the Six Mile Creek watershed in the town of Dryden. The easement will help protect public water supplies in the city of Ithaca and was funded in part through the State’s Water Quality Improvement Project Program.

Thousand Islands Land Trust acquires three wetland properties in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA â Three Jefferson County land parcels have been added this month to protected tracts in the Goose Bay and Crooked Creek areas of the Thousand Islands.
With a $225,360 grant from the stateâs Water Quality Improvement Project, the Thousand Islands Land Trust on Wednesday announced the acquisition of more than 500 wetland and forest acres in the town of Alexandria. A partnership between TILT and the state Department of Environmental Conservation, the acquisitions were driven by goals to improve and protect the surface water quality of the St. Lawrence River.
South of Oak Island in portions of Hammond, St. Lawrence County, and Alexandria, Crooked Creek Preserve was once farmland before being purchased by TILT in 1998. Between Crooked Creek and TILTâs Butterfield Marsh Preserve, the newly acquired Wilton parcel totals 182 acres and features mature white pine and oak forests, shrubland and 50 acres of DEC Class I wetlands. ....
