NAVSUP, mission partners enhance crewmembers' morale, mission capability during USS Iwo Jima's maintenance period in Spain > United States Navy > News-Stories


As the LMP was taking place, IWOARG’s crewmembers accessed quality-of-life amenities during their liberty period. MWR placed recreational tents at the installation softball field and provided tables and chairs for use by the IWOARG crew. The Navy Exchange (NEX) and NAVSTA’s Commissary offered exclusive use of the stores to IWOARG crewmembers. FLCSI Site Rota’s contracting team ensured all ship contracting requirements and last minute details were managed leading up to the IWOARG’s LMP.
“Contracts were awarded to procure Wi-Fi services for 3,000 personnel at pier 1 and the softball field and transportation vehicles for crewmembers,” said Jose Neto, FLCSI Site Rota supervisory contracting specialist. “Contracts for tug vehicles, and man-lift equipment were also awarded in support of ship repairs.” ....

TACRON 12 Holds Change of Command Ceremony > United States Navy > News-Stories


Capt. Daniel P. Hopkins, commander, Tactical Air Control Group (COMTACGRU) 1, presided over the ceremony and awarded Marsh the Meritorious Service Medal for his superior performance as commanding officer of TACRON 12.
“I am conscious of what a unique experience TACRON command is,” said Marsh. “I’ll miss this community, and TACRON 12 especially, not because I was in command but because of what we accomplished together. This tour has been the highlight of my career, and being in command of a group of warriors that I hold in such high regard has been the honor of a lifetime.”
Under Marsh’s guidance, TACRON 12 provided air control detachments to amphibious assault ships USS Wasp (LHD 1) and USS America (LHA 6), conducting military operations throughout the Pacific Theater. TACRON 12 ensured unmatched tactical air control services from the sea and expeditionary locations ashore for more than 10,000 sorties conducted during 21 major joint exercises. USS Carter Hall arrives in Lisbon, Portugal


LISBON, Portugal
The Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ship USS Carter Hall (LSD 50), operating as part of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Readiness Group (IWOARG), arrived in Lisbon, Portugal for a maintenance and logistics stop, April 30.
After Carter Hall’s departure, April 26, from Her Majesty’s Naval Base Devonport, Carter the ship continued its deployment in the Atlantic Ocean with the IWOARG.
“We are excited to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Portuguese Marines with Portugal,” said Cmdr. LaDonna Simpson, Carter Hall’s commanding officer. “We look forward to working with the Portuguese Navy and Marines during CONTEX-PHIBEX. Our continued participation in multilateral exercises with allies and partners strengthens our commitments and improves our interoperability.” ....

DVIDS - News - Iwo Jima ARG and 24th MEU Reach Milestone, 60 days COVID-Free

ATLANTIC OCEAN – The Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group (IWOARG) and the embarked 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) reached the milestone of 60 days underway with no COVID-19 cases, April 20, 2021.
“The IWOARG is at maximum readiness when it comes to combating COVID-19,” said U.S. Navy Capt. Darren Nelson, commodore Amphibious Squadron Four. “Our operational readiness allows us to maintain regional stability and maritime security during a time of international crisis.”
The combined IWOARG and 24th MEU of roughly 4,300 Sailors and Marines dispersed among three warships and several locations ashore across the SIXTH Fleet area of operations have had no cases of COVID-19 in the past two months. Many of the ARG/MEU personnel on ground across Europe are Marines conducting training. ....
