Company seeks to move riverboat license from Bossier City to Slidell

Peninsula Pacific Entertainment is in discussions about potentially moving their riverboat casino license for DiamondJacks, which has been closed since last May, from Bossier City to Slidell.
The company reportedly is interested in constructing a 250 million dollar casino resort on the water. St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper said this should be left to the people.
“I believe St Tammany Parish residents should have the opportunity to vote yes or no to allow the investment by Peninsula pacific of a proposed premium resort with entertainment and gaming,” said Cooper.
The project would require quite a few steps to complete. First St. Tammany voters would have to undo a 1996 referendum blocking casinos and video poker, the Legislature would have to approve putting it on the ballot, and the State Gaming Control Board would also need to give permission. ....

St. Tammany site out, Tangipahoa in for Medline expansion, company says

Medline, the medical supply giant that had planned to build a huge distribution center in St. Tammany Parish, is opting instead for a site in neighboring Tangipahoa Parish, a company spokesman said Wednesday, ending uncertainty over the project s location and a contentious chapter in St. Tammany politics.
We re moving forward with the site in Hammond, company spokesman Jesse Greenberg said. We re working on contracts and construction plans with the parish and the city, and we re excited to move the project forward.
He said construction will begin in the first quarter of 2021.

COVINGTON, La. There are four major hospitals in St. Tammany Parish and, as of Wednesday, there were only 17 empty ICU beds out of 153 in the area known as Louisiana Region 9.
Those numbers put Livingston, St. Helena, Tangipahoa, Washington and St. Tammany parishes in one of the tightest pinches statewide as the coronavirus becomes more widespread by the day.
The State of Louisiana reported 4,399 new cases Wednesday, the highest one-day total since the pandemic started. ....
