Up to 700 jobs are on the line from the planned closure of popular inter-city bus service Greyhound, unions warned on Wednesday.
However, National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) secretary general Irvin Jim has threatened to interdict Greyhoundâs owners Unitrans Passenger to stop closure, saying the union was only informed of the Section 189 retrenchment process on Tuesday. ....

The SA Parastatals and Tertiary Institutions Union (Saptu) has expressed concern over the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration s (CCMA) decision to terminate the service of more than 500 part-time commissioners due to budget cuts.
“These cuts now leave the caseload entirely to the 173 full-time commissioners left,” says advocate Ben van der Walt, secretary-general of Saptu.
According to Saptu, the director of the CCMA, Cameron Morajane, announced that the commission would not use the services of any of its part-time consultants mostly lawyers starting December 2020 to make up for the R617bn budget cut over the next three years. ....

Cape Town - Workers and trade unions are disappointed over the increased caseload at the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) after news that part-time commissioners are no longer resolving disputes.
Casual Workers Advice Office (CWAO) organiser, Edgar Matome said that was a massive attack on workers in particular the unorganised, who were not members of trade unions or other organisations.
Matome said the backlogs benefit the bosses “because they would rely on the delay in cases to dismiss and intimidate workers knowing it would take years to resolve the dispute”. ....

Eskom has lost a dispute with trade union Solidarity, lodged with the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration.
Eskom now has to pay employees to compensate for travelling costs to schools as well as to access medical care, as they live and work in remote areas.
The commission found that Eskom unilaterally changed conditions of service for these employees back in 2017.
Eskom has lost a dispute with trade union Solidarity, and it will have to pay employees working in remote or isolated areas certain benefits, the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) has ruled. ....
