Each year, students from the University of Missouri work with students from India on joint story projects that link their two countries. This year’s stories deal with how various industries are faring in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The project was overseen by Laura Ungar, an adjunct instructor at the University of Missouri and investigative and enterprise editor at The Courier Journal in Louisville, and journalist Sujoy Dhar, founder of the Indian news agency India Blooms, based in Kolkata, India.
Fourth grade teacher Autumn Case figures nearly three quarters of her students don’t have reliable access to broadband internet. So when school went remote during the pandemic, she had to give them packets full of course materials so they could do their schoolwork. ....

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) - Kell West Regional Hospital is offering on-site COVID-19 vaccines for businesses, schools and churches.
Staff with the hospital said, “We realize that it is inconvenient for many to go out and seek a vaccine - so in many cases it is just not done.”
“The quicker we get that needle in and get someone vaccinated, the quicker we potentially save a life and that’s a really big deal,” Dr. Jerry Meyers, the hospital’s CEO, said. ....

Members of the school community are looking expectantly to January, when four new school board trustees take their seats, for signs that there will be new directions in Oakland public schools’ leadership.
The new board members – Dr. Clifford Thompson, Mike Hutchinson, VanCedric Williams and Sam Davis – will be called on to work with the other three members of the seven-member board to  develop solutions in a district that faces deep divisions over school closings and austerity-driven budget cuts.
