Sri Lanka is ready to face the challenge at the Human Rights Council - Foreign Minister

The 46th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council begins tomorrow.
For the first time in history, the meeting will be held online due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic.
Based on the report released by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, six countries including the United Kingdom and Canada are due to bring a resolution against Sri Lanka.
The six countries that co-sponsored the resolution on Sri Lanka stated that a new resolution to promote reconciliation, accountability and human rights in Sri Lanka will be presented to the UN Human Rights Council this year based on the report of the High Commission. ....

Qatar- Foundation students at WCM-Q inspired by Career Seminar Series


(MENAFN - Gulf Times) Foundation Programme students at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) had a chance to hear from qualified physicians, a WCM-Q alumna and current medical students about the training and career paths open to them in a series of inspiring and informative seminars.
The Career Seminar Series is run each semester at WCM-Q to provide Foundation students with both inspiration and practical advice about the many opportunities offered by a career in medicine. The seminars, which were previously held at the college, have been moved online during the pandemic.
In the first seminar of the new series, the Foundation students heard from a panel of current WCM-Q medical students comprised of fourth-year student Ramez Bodair, third-year Kawthar al-Najar and first-year Tala Abu Samaan, all of whom are graduates of the Foundation Programme. 'UN High Commissioner's report portrayed LTTE as heroic' - Lord Naseby

Lord Naseby of Britain accuses UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet of trying to make the LTTE heroic in her report on Sri Lanka.
Based on the report, the UN Human Rights Council s hosting body in Sri Lanka, including the United Kingdom, will submit a resolution to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Lord Naseby, who is also chairman of the British Parliamentary Group on Sri Lanka, points out that the LTTE s atrocities were forgotten in the Human Rights Commissioner s report.
In a letter to the office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, Lord Naseby added that the LTTE, a brutal terrorist organization, had assassinated moderate Tamil leaders, as well as former President R. Premadasa and Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. ....

Indian Foreign Minister's visit to Male enhances economic ties with Maldives

Colombo, February 20 (newsin.asia): Indian Foreign Minister S.Jaishankar s current foray into the Maldives is meant to further enhance India-Maldives economic ties which have been growing exponentially since the exit of the pro-China Abdullah Yameen regime in 2018.
According to a Maldivian government spokesman Miuvan, Jaishankar would oversee the signing of a number of MoUs and symbolically hand over 100,000 COVIDSHIELD vaccines during his two- day sojourn. The MoUs would be on: the Second Amendatory Dollar Credit Line Agreement; the Geydhoshu Fish processing plant in N. Kendhikulhudhoo; Cooperation in the Field of Sustainable Urban Development; Cooperation and Collaboration in Broadcasting; and the Letter of Intent between the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation and the Export-Import Bank of India. ....
