Alberta's strict new COVID-19 measures apply to Cold Lake and M.D.

Alberta is moving K-12 students to at-home learning, closing patios and salons, and increasing fines for rulebreakers in an effort to stem a surge in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.
The measures, announced by Premier Jason Kenney Tuesday night, are the strongest put in place since last spring and apply to any region or community except for those with fewer than 50 cases per 100,000 people and fewer than 30 active cases.

The legislative session in one of Canada s most active COVID-19 hot spots is being temporarily suspended, while at least two other provinces looked forward to ramping up vaccinations in the week ahead.
The two-week legislature suspension in Alberta aims to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, which has led to record-high case counts in recent days, Government House Leader Jason Nixon said in a news release Sunday. ....

Alberta’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout is expanding to include school staff and daycare workers, Premier Jason Kenney announced Monday, while warning that stronger public health measures are coming.
The expansion will open immunization appointments to more than 52,000 teachers, 29,000 support staff and 24,000 child-care workers as of Tuesday. Bus drivers, educational assistants, custodians and others who support schools will also become eligible. Staff working in licensed child-care programs like daycare programs, out-of-school care, preschool programs and family day homes are included.
