CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System has vaccinated 500 of its teachers in the last week, while active cases of COVID-19 in the surrounding community continue to decline.
This week, the school system’s clinic expects to receive around 700 more doses, as vaccine retail and pharmacy accessibility expands throughout the county. There are about 5,100 employees in the school system.

CMCSS’ Onsite Employee Health and Wellness Clinic received 500 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine last week, and began its process of internally vaccinating teachers through the clinic on Friday. ....

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) announced a phase-in return to in-person learning for grades 7-12, citing the county’s improving COVID-19 numbers.
The district said Friday that all 7th-12th grade traditional students will return to in-person learning on February 8.
The school system released a few main points regarding their decision:
“Clarksville-Montgomery County has experienced 11 straight days of declining % of community spread of COVID-19, dropping around 0.4% in 11 days.”
“Although the positivity rate has seen slight increases and fluctuations over the past few days, this can be attributed to nuances in the data provided by the state; rapids vs. PCR, etc.” ....

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – On Monday, over 200 Clarksville-Montgomery County School System employees lucked into getting a COVID-19 vaccine after the CEO of Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville called the school district about a surplus of vaccinations that were about to expire.
Schools Director Millard House received a call from Alex Villa, CEO of Tennova in Clarksville, that morning, and Villa told House the hospital would be unable to distribute those vaccines before that expiration time.
“They had 305 vials of the vaccine that if they didn’t get out, and get into arms, they were going to go bad. So the director of the Health Department at the state level told Tennova essentially that ‘If you can find 300 arms to get it in, get it done, ” House said at the district’s School Board meeting Tuesday night. ....

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Several Tennessee School districts are participating in a pilot program to test teachers and staff for COVID-19 faster.
Districts like Hamilton, Rutherford County and Clarksville-Montgomery County were selected to pilot a rapid COVID-19 testing program through the Tennessee Department of Health and the Department of Education.
The new tests will help school districts implement COVID-19 testing in their facilities that will provide results on-site within approximately 20 minutes. ....

Tennessee school districts now using rapid COVID-19 tests for staff

Schools, both public and private, across Tennessee are starting to pilot rapid COVID-19 tests in an effort to keep classrooms open.
Hamilton County Schools, the state’s fourth-largest district, began testing symptomatic teachers in the district’s middle schools on Monday, using BinaxNOW rapid COVID-19 tests provided by the Tennessee Department of Health. 
Mardee Miller, principal of Howard Connect Academy, was one of the first tested by a trained school nurse. The tests are available to school districts free of charge thanks to federal funding, according to Shelly Walker, spokesperson for the state Health Department, and provide results in just about twenty minutes. ....
