‘New norms will help in improving road safety and making vehicles more fuel-efficient’
The tyre industry has welcomed draft norms involving new requirements for rolling resistance, wet grip and rolling sound emission, as stated in a draft notification released by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH).
The Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA) has stated that the new norms are a step in the right direction and will help in improving road safety and making vehicles more fuel-efficient, ATMA has stated.
“Tyre industry’s growth is underpinned by a sharp focus on technical and environmental parameters. The new draft norms will further align Indian standards with the best in operation internationally. Tyre major has now been accredited with ISO/ IEC 17025 for the wet grip and coast-by noise tyre tests on the track
Apollo Tyres on Monday said it has become the first tyre manufacturer in India to get the coveted accreditation from National Accreditation Board for Testing & Calibration Laboratories (NABL), for outdoor regulatory testing in India.
The major impediment to government’s plan of implementing Star Ratings, was the unavailability of adequate NABL accredited testing infrastructure in India.
NABL has now given the certificate of accreditation to Apollo Tyres Test Centre for ‘General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories’ extended with the track tests of wet grip and coast-by noise for C1, C2 and C3 categories of tyres which are covered under the labelling programme. ....

Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) is making strong moves to branch out into the production of alternative fuels. The top oil marketing company (OMC), for instance, is ramping up its capabilities to supply hydrogen. At a virtual conclave organised by our sister publication Autocar Professional on Meeting Emission Challenges , Indian Oil s chairman, Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, said, Indian Oil is committed to the use of hydrogen and we are doing a lot of research in this particular aspect.
